Searching FAQ

How do I find the videos?
Gone is the QuickSearch function of the old database. However, you can browse by title, character or pairing. Not to mention the Top Tens, which show you the current top tens (ten most reviewed, ten most 'favourited', ten most prolific vidders, and so forth). So you may miss the QuickSearch function, but try to be philosophical, now every character, category, pairing and vidder is a QuickSearch!

There is also the simple search function, in which you enter a word or two in a box, and chose the option of searching by username, summary or title. If you're searching for something but can only remember the alternate title, then search in the summary. All alt titles have been moved into the summaries.

If you need a more complex search, perhaps if you're looking for something very unusual, go to the Advanced Search. There is an Advanced Search Help section below, but it's pretty simple: enter the video parameters you'd like to have returned, and that's what you'll get when you hit submit.

It's a good idea to check back at regular intervals, or watch the nummy_treat mailing list for updates, since the QuickSearches will be automatically updated each time a vidder adds a vid to the database.

What does the Advanced Search do?
The Advanced Search sorts through all the video information in the database and returns a listing of videos depending on what criteria you enter. For example, if you enter no criteria at all and hit submit, your Search Results will display every video in the database. You will probably not want to do this, as there are thousands of videos linked from here (Sarah and Laura have counted!).

Please note that when you start checking boxes, this will LIMIT your search to ONLY those videos that match the parameters you are requesting. You should use the Quick Search page where possible, unless you're looking for a very specific or complex combination of parameters.

How do I use the Advanced Search? Advanced Search fields:

  • Format: Enter all of the player formats in which you would like to view videos.
  • Format to exclude: Select any formats you do not wish to include in your search.
  • Category: Select all categories you want to see. Videos matching any of these categories will be returned. For more information, see the category definitions in the glossary.
  • Category To Exclude: If you don't want to see videos in certain categories, select those here and they will be excluded from the search. For more information, see the category definitions in the glossary.
  • Characters: Select all the characters you would like to see featured as a main character in a video. Videos matching any of these characters will be returned.
  • Characters To Exclude: If there's a character you really don't want to watch, select them here and they will be excluded from the search.
  • Pairings: Select one or more pairings. Videos matching any of these pairings will be returned.
  • Pairings To Exclude: If there are couples that you just don't want to see, select them here and those pairings will be excluded from the search.
  • Search Term: Type in a few key words and off you go!
  • Sort: This field allows you to choose how you would like to receive the list of the videos you're searching for, either alphabetically by Title, or chronologically by the date they were posted to the database.

Why can't I find what I'm looking for?
The simple answer is that it may not be there. Another possibility is that your search parameters could be too limited. You might try broadening your search by selecting fewer field constraints, or visiting the QuickSearch page. If you're looking for a pairing and can't find it, try looking for both of the individual characters instead of using the pairing search. Or, you can check the Links page for direct links to some vidder's websites and other resources. Finally, you can always ask at the nummy_treat mailing list; someone there may know where to find what you're looking for.

Are there any known bugs/issues?
At the moment, no. Though we may run into them, so if you have a problem, drop us a line and we'll work on it.
